Channel Tunnel (1987-1989)

The Channel Tunnel was tunnelled from both the English side and French side of the English Channel. Eleven tunnel boring machines cut through the chalk marl over 31.4 miles to construct two rail tunnels and a service tunnel. Tunnelling commenced in 1988 and the Tunnel began operation in 1994.
